It has been awhile since my last update, but not much has been happening. Just healing from surgery and preparing for immunotherapy. Which starts THIS Thursday, May 10th. So you may ask...how does one prepare yourself for the start of immunotherapy? Well...pretty sure, it's not do what I do. Ugh.
Me one month ago: Okay...one month, I am going to get healthy. All organic groceries, no wine during the week, yoga & meditation everyday, green tea instead of coffee, maybe I will even start a garden...yes, a garden, that definitely sounds healthy.
Me two days out: Shoot, is there really just 2 days left?!? How can this be??? Let's just say, I've got a lot of "gettin' healthy" to squeeze into the next 48 hours!
That's okay though, better late than never...as I sit here sipping my green tea. Dang, I miss coffee since YESTERDAY!
I have done a little more research on Opdivo and I am very optimistic that it will be a breeze (or easy-peasy, as apparently I told EVERYONE in the hospital after surgery about 862 times. I may have even thrown in a few "I must be a surgery superstar because this was easy-peasy". Most people have very minimal side effects from Opdivo, and almost everyone starts off great. The medicine builds up in your body with each infusion so it may get harder a few appointments in. The long-term plan is every two weeks for a year and then DONE. Of course, only done if I have clear scans all year though. And, those will happen every 3 months to make sure nothing is popping up anywhere.
So that's about it...I'm looking forward to one of my besties from Indiana flying in tomorrow to take me to me first infusion, and helping me with this nuthouse for a few days. Pray for no side effects and good veins. (I will not have to get a chest port if my arm/hand veins can hold up thru the year). AND...I just checked the calendar, and May 10, 2019 is a Friday...so plan on a big "I'm DONE" celebration that weekend. ;)
XOXO,
Lacey
